In his column today published on the Inquirer, the eminent Manuel L Quezon III wrote about the “military atrocity” that resulted in the death of 22 year old Jevilyn Cullamat, daughter of Bayan Muna Representative Eufemia Cullamat.
The other day, our armed forces claimed to have had an encounter with its generations-old foe, the New People’s Army, the result of which was a lone casualty: a civilian who served as a medic. The woman also happened to be the daughter of a party list representative…
This is in contradiction to a statement issued by Jevilyn’s grieving mother on Twitter the day after the tragedy in which she describes her daughter as a martyr and a mandirigma (“warrior”).
Quezon is deliberately misleading his readers by suggesting that Jevilyn Cullamat is a “victim” of the Philippine military. Contrary to his dishonest assertion, it is quite evident that Cullamat is a combatant of the terrorist arm of the Communist Party of the Philippines, the New People’s Army (NPA). Let us all wait for what Manuel L Quezon III has to say about this. Don’t hold your breath though.
