This year’s Bar Exam top-notchers attest to the excellence of law schools outside of Metro Manila and way outside of the chi chi circle of legal eagle elites produced by the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo. This is a good outcome and indicates a more level playing field as far as Law education goes seeing that the top ten are no longer of the “traditional” molds.
This puts Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Commisioner Rowena Guanzon in an awkward position considering she had earlier belittled lawyers who are not graduates of UP and Ateneo Law.
Guanzon also blocked no less than the Dean of Mindanao State University Law School Alizedney Ditucalan himself after he responded to Guanzon’s challenge by citing the case ATTY. MANE vs. JUDGE BELEN (A.M. No. RTJ-08-2119), from where he points out how “the Supreme Court reprimanded a judge for bragging her UP law diploma”.
It would be interesting to see what Guanzon does next now that she’s been called out as an elitist and continues to bring shame to her otherwise honourable office.
