It’s time to fact check Rappler again. In a fluff piece meant primarily to feature “vice president” Leni Robredo’s address to “a forum of local and international journalists.”
Included in this “report” is this passage…
The Duterte administration has targeted certain journalists and news organizations like Rappler for their critical reporting on its policies, actions, and statements. The government under Duterte has widely clamped down on dissent and opposition – inherent facets of democratic societies.
However, nowhere in the rest of the report is evidence presented to back this claim other than a link to the Rappler “report” “LIST: Cases vs Maria Ressa, Rappler directors, staff since 2018”.
Despite the documentation exhibiting the legal nature of these cases, Rappler continues to stick to its “assault on press freedom” angle to its storytelling.
