Another February another year, another non-event takes place at the once hallowed EDSA monuments to the 1986 “people power revolution”. If Filipinos haven’t gotten the hint yet, perhaps it’s time to spell it out. These monuments should be put in a museum.
Then again, perhaps let them stay — as poignant reminders of how Filipinos were led to believe by the Yellowtards that mere “freedom” would bring about universal prosperity and national greatness. The fact is it didn’t and the reality persists — only discipline and brains build strong and great nations.
The EDSA “spirit” instilled none of that in the Filipino psyche. All it did was give the false assurance that merely being “good”, prayerful, and humble will make us a great people. The fact is, it is societies with strong killer instincts and not the flaccid sheep that achieve global levels of achievement.
The legacy of EDSA took Filipinos dowm the opposite road. This is why the Yellowtards today are at the losing end of the very “democracy” they once touted as Filipinos’ salvation — utterly incapable of winning elections or even mobilising people to those street rallies that were once their trademark political enterprise.
