Just in case the Opposition still don’t understand and so they cannot use this again in the next disaster, get this: Local Government Units are expected to be first responders in emergency situations. They shouldn’t be looking for the president on the first day of a situation before the extent of the damage is known.
This is exactly what the Opposition did on the first day of the Taal Volcano eruption. The members of the Opposition drama club were first to label the natural occurrence a “tragedy”. While they are the first to complain, their idol “vice president” Leni Robredo seems to enjoy “tragedy” as evident in the big smiles she flashes for the cameras in her now all-too-familiar on-site PR campaigns.
Perhaps the drama circuses habitually kicked up by the Opposition in times of crises reveal their real agendas — to make Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte look bad simply by fielding their poster girl to do photo ops at disaster evacuation sites. To be fair, that may work the first or second or even third time. But, like their now discredited penchant for street rallies, this one too has been overused and rendered ineffective for scoring political and PR points.
In life, things are not always what they seem.
