Weeks after she promised to release her Ulat Ng Bayan — some sort of “report” on her findings during her short stint as co-lead of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s War on Drugs, “vice president” Leni Robredo still had nothing to deliver. What she did have to show the other day was one of her famous press releases. Unfortunately it was no more than yet another failed PR stunt.
Instead of delivering her “report” Robredo merely waved what looked like a binder with a few pages in between the covers before the cameras while she insisted that it was there but not important for now…
“In fact, the report is here. It’s a 40-page report, the summary of which I was scheduled to disclose today. But because of the strong earthquake in Davao del Sur and adjacent provinces like South Cotabato, we decided to postpone it,” she told reporters.
In effect, Robredo showed her homework but declined to submit it and, more notably, did not want to talk about it.
This is a far cry from Robredo’s fighting form several weeks ago following the unceremonial boot she got for her “failure to present ideas”. Robredo was, as we recall, furious…
“When I took on this post, I asked, ‘Are you ready for me?’ Now, my question is, ‘What are you afraid I will find out? What are you afraid the people will know?'”
One wonders then what Robredo is afraid of now? Is she concerned that her “40-page report” would fall flat as far as delivering anything insightful on the ongoing War on Drugs?
As always, abangan ang susunod na kabanata.
