Netizens led by top Yellowtard blogger Jover Laurio are criticising Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Celine Pialago’s statement on yesterday’s transport strike using a grammar gaffes she had committed years ago.
Back in 2014, the then Miss Earth contestant, in an honest mistake, misused the term “passed away” in referring to a fellow contestant who had actually passed out.
Pialago generated online buzz after saying in an interview aired on “TV Patrol” that Pine “passed away” after “depriving herself” of food.
“I kept on inviting her to eat breakfast but she didn’t want to eat kasi we’re under weight watch,” Pialago told ABS-CBN News. “There are like six girls who are under weight watch, for big tummies and stuff. We’re not really allowed to eat much, so she’s really depriving herself.”
Shortly after the interview aired, viewers of “TV Patrol” reacted to the wrong use of “passed away” in referring to Pine losing consciousness.
Pialago has sent a text message to ABS-CBN News saying she is sorry for incorrectly using the term.
In her usual “biting” commentary on current affairs, Laurio chimes in today with her usual intelligent two cents on the matter.
Funny that. Laurio is actually on notice in so far as she has not responded to a challenge to her issued by lawyer Ferdie Topacio to demonstrate her grammar proficiency to the tune of a one million peso prize purse.
