Is dictatorship “looming”? So far there is no evidence to support this shrill speculation. All democratic processes are working. There is no sign of any form of media censorship being implemented. There is no police or military crackdown on any kind of “activism”. No one is being arrested for “subversive” activities. The three branches of government — Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary — continue to operate independently. Due process continues to be observed.
In fact, no less than convicted-mutineer-turned-senator Antonio Trillanes puts faith in the rulings of the Supreme Court despite “thought leaders” in his own camp sustaining a demonisation campaign against this institution.
Indeed, the only form of tyranny going on in the Philippines is that all-too-familiar tyranny of the ignorant.
Issues of dubious relevance and the lame conjectures of the ill-informed are primarily what pervade the discourse of the Yellowtard-led Philippine Opposition. Try to dig deeper into underlying concepts and facutal details and they scream bloody “nosebleed!” With these sorts of approach applied to “debate”, there is very little that one could intelligently contribute to the Opposition chatter.
