It takes discipline to be a productive contributor to the democratic process. This is because it is people who apply a disciplined mind to thinking through the nation’s issues systematically that are more likely to vote wisely during elections and regards their leaders with a critical eye.
Unfortunately, the Philippine Opposition prefer that Filipinos remain the superstitious starstruck people that continue to rely on “heroes” and “prayers” for their salvation. Thus, it is not surprising that the Yellowtard narrative is populated by prayerful protagonists. This gives Filipinos assurance that the “good guys” don’t necessarily need to be clever. They just need to be prayerful.
Seen under that light, political observer no longer need be baffled as to why a flaccid politician such as “vice president” Leni Robredo is propped up as the de facto “leader” of the Opposition. It is because she fits the mold of the sort of figurehead that the “prayerful” bloc can readily relate to. Beyond that persona, however, Robredo holds not much promise and offers no real and practical alternatives to the Filipino people.
